High-fired teapots have a clear and distinct ring like a small bell when you lift up the lid about a quarter of an inch and allow it to drop gently on to the teapot (make sure you are holding the teapot on the flat of your hand so as to not dampen the teapot in any way). Zisha clay’s desirability has spawned a magnificent culture of teapot craft mastery in the area of Yixing. Tradition and innovation thrive there, and the beauty and utility of the teapots bear witness to it. However, thanks to modern technologies like electric kilns, which allow precise temperature controls, making Zhuni teapots become easier, but it is still harder to work with than any other kinds of Zisha.Makers like Tiffany and Co. are well-known across the globe, and anything with the Tiffany & Co. hallmark on it is typically more valuable than more generic items of the same kind. There’s also the material to consider; porcelain, silver, and other metals are typically the most valuable materials. Are Antique Teapots Safe to Use? Selecting The raw materials is the first step in making a good teapot. The potter has to decide what kind of teapot he wants to make, what should be the color and the overall look of the finished work. The Meticulous selection of very specific ore types will be reflected much more on the finished teapot than just sorting the ore by the main categories of Zini, Hongni or Tuanni. Because most Qingshuini Zini teapots during the Factory era were light brown in color, people started to use the word to refer to teapots with similar texture and color to those Factory 1 teapots. This is what created the confusion that exists today. The color of the finished teapot can be anything in the range of and between the other Zisha types. First, the clay is molded into the desired shape using a mold or by hand. Then, it is dried and fired in a kiln to harden the clay and remove any moisture. After firing, the teapot may be glazed to create a smooth surface and enhance its appearance. Finally, it is fired again to set the glaze. Making a Yixing teapot requires skill, experience, and patience, as it involves several stages. How to tell the age of Yixing teapot

Zisha clay’s sandy quality makes it porous enough to allow the pot to breathe, pulling the tea fragrance into the walls of the pot. This enhances the tea drinking experience over time. The porosity also reduces the likelihood of mold formation and disburses excess heat in brewing. The unique granular structure and mineral composition of Zisha clay gives it excellent heat handling properties that are excellent for maintaining a stable temperature in the teapot, thereby mitigating temperature fluctuations which can diminish the flavour of tea. Beggars did not say anything and insisted to go. The rich man became anxious, said: "I give you all the possessions. Would you like to exchange?" After the beggar heard, he just smiled and said: "If I could give up this pot, I would not beg to live any longer."

The famous Zisha 紫砂 (purple clay) from Yixing has been used to make teapots for centuries. Wan Ling travels to Dingshan in Jiangsu province to meet the artisans that have spent their lives honing their skills in this craft. Wan Ling personally selects pots from makers who adhere to the traditional methods and produce the best quality pots. Each pot is built from scratch on a hand wheel using wooden tools.

The mineral and metal content of Zisha includes iron oxide, kaolinite, quartz and mica, making teapots very strong when fired and resistant to damage compared to more delicate Western pottery. High quality Yixing clay is 3-6 times less absorbent than other clays which helps teapots to retain the fragrance of teas. The natural shape generally takes plants and animals as the prototype. Some of these works are directly made with the shape of a variety of items, such as pumpkin pot, persimmon flat pot and so on, and some pots are carved on the body, such as ivy pot, pot of primrose. But when we pour from a teapot, we decant the already-made tea. The water that should be able to penetrate tea leaves should be coming not from a teapot but a kettle. And even then, often, we prefer to be more gentle with leaves and not to pour water on them directly. Teapot is sandy and it transfers heat slow, so it has a good stability of hot and cold, even if burned directly on the stove, it will not be split. It can turn greenish after a period of usage and has a jade-like appearance [9] this change is distinguished from green coloration which is present from firing. The first Yixing ware exhibition in America took place at the China Institute of New York in 1977 and it seems likely that Florence and Herbert Irving may have seen or heard of this show. Although they were extraordinary connoisseurs, most American collectors of Chinese art would not have been familiar with this field at the time.
