We need to do this as Christians, and it is to let the Word of God be true and not add to or take away from His Words that He has given us. We are to let Second Timothy 3:16-17, help us to become mature in the Lord. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." (KJV)

This truth is not based on just one passage or two of Scripture, but throughout the Bible. The Lord Jesus Christ said, for example, "The scripture cannot be broken" (John 10:35). That this principle applies to every word was also confirmed by Him. "For verily I say unto you. Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled" (Matthew 5:18). (KJV)

The same high view of God's words is also found frequently in the Old Testament. Among others, practically every verse of the longest chapter in the Bible (Psalm 119) extols some virtue of the Scriptures. For example, there is the testimony of Psalm 119:160. "Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever " (KJV).

Then consider the sobering truth that the Bible closes with a warning from Jesus Christ, not to tamper with His words. "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book. If any man shall add unto these things, god shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book" (Revelation 22:18-19) (KJV).

It is thus, presumptuous and dangerous for any self-styled modern "prophet" to allege that he has received some new revelation from God, or for any self-appointed modern critic to presume to reject the plain truth of Scripture in favor of some adhoc reinterpretation based on currently scientific theory.

What is wrong with simply believing what God has revealed in His Word. The Apostle Paul from the inspiration of God, gives this Biblical statement, "For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; ... " (Romans 3:3-4)(KJV).
