About this deal

Maynard's father was teetotal, and he created wine gums as a rich flavoured sweet that would serve as an alcohol-free alternative to traditional wine. Anna Ulrich, brand manager for joyful candy at Mondelēz International, said: “Candy consumers are still looking for the best-tasting products which are also fun, made for sharing and made with trusted, authentic ingredients. For this reason the addition of real fruit juice to this great-tasting range is certainly set to capture shoppers’ attention from the fixture. Cadbury’s owner Mondelez International has launched a range of non-HFSS sweets named Juicies across its Maynard Bassetts and The Natural Confectionery Co. brands. While jelly beans are smaller and harder, they still offer intense flavours and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Also, the flavours are exotic, including popcorn, cotton candy and other popular combinations.

While Maynard's will always be the OG of wine gums, plenty of other options are available at various price points. She revealed that the new sweets performed brilliantly in consumer testing, with 77 per cent of those surveyed expecting Juicies to excel on taste, and more than two-thirds of testers – 71 per cent – saying they would go on to buy the new range. As the second biggest branded sugar confectionery range on the market, Maynards Bassetts is ideally placed to tap into the authenticity and naturalness trend with this new range. What’s more, The Natural Confectionery Co. range is growing by more than 44 per cent year-on-year – proving just how popular the brand is with UK consumers. These sweets aren't coated in sugar, so they're softer on the outside but still have a chewy centre that's a lot stronger than the consistency of jelly sweets. Are Wine Gums Healthy?Gummy bears are softer than wine gums and have a more jelly-like consistency, but they offer a fruity flavour perfect for children. Mondelēz International is launching a range of non-HFSS sweets called Juicies across its Maynards Bassetts and The Natural Confectionery Co. brands. Wine gums are actually relatively easy to make at home, and you don't need any fancy equipment. All you need is some sugar, gelatine, cornstarch, water and your chosen flavourings.

Apple is the most popular fruit in the UK and blueberry is a leading flavour for confectionery,” says Georgie Feldman, external communications manager at brand owner Mars Wrigley. The year-long campaign’s efficacy remains to be seen: six months after launch, Trebor was up 3.3% in value but down 1.3% in units. Each NPD contains real fruit juice and are claimed to offer 30% less sugar than their standard equivalents

The new range will include Maynards Bassetts Wine Gums Juicies, Maynards Bassetts Sports Mix Juicies, and The Natural Confectionery Co. Juicy Snakes. Rolling out through August, the sweets contain real fruit juice and 30% less sugar than their standard equivalents. Mondelez said they would not “compromise on taste, a key selling point for consumers”. Lion Wine Gums are still made with the traditional recipe and made at a British factory.
