About this deal

For this light, the spill, corona and hotspot is somewhat predictable due to the TIR optics. Surprisingly, the LEDs are not covered under the TIR (Total Internal Reflection) optics. With the LEDs used, the beam is suited for recognizing items in the near to mid-range distance. It’s pretty compact and lightweight at only 75g but its huge head and deep smooth reflector gives it a throw of a quite staggering 585 metres with an intensity of 85000 candela! The Nichia 519A LED sits inside a slightly mottled reflector and there is a noticeable hotspot, but with a fairly low output I still only measured 82 metres of throw with 1682 candela of intensity. The clip has sufficient tension to ensure that the light will stay clipped to any material to prevent the light from falling out. https://www.nitecorestore.com/Nitecore-T4K-4000-Lumen-Keychain-EDC-Flashlight-p/fl-nite-t4k.htm(link is external)

What I like

The torch has a fairly complex user interface which took me a while to understand, but it’s very comprehensive.

Nitecore T4K has 5 brightness levels available with direct access to TURBO and ULTRALOW, it also has 2 user modes, DEMO Mode and DAILY Mode. With the flashlight both on and off, press the POWER and MODE buttons simultaneously to switch between the DEMO and DAILY modes. The LED will flash to indicate the currently selected mode: Some pictures have been adjusted slightly to depict as close as to what is seen in real life. The distance of the light from the door is 4.6m. It’s actually in Nitecore’s keychain torch lineup – I looked at the two smaller torches in this lineup in my last article– the Tiki and Tini 2. It’s a bit of a stretch calling this a keychain torch, but it does come with a keychain attachment, unlike any other torch I’m looking at today.

It has a nice design and good build quality and comes with a power bank feature so the USB-C charging port works both ways. Using the power bank function of the Wurkoss TS25 The torch came on at 1271 lumens in turbo, dropped to 1245 lumens after 10 seconds, 1206 lumens after 30 seconds – pretty much exactly its spec’d 1212 lumens. It slowly dropped to 487 lumens at 5 minutes and then slowly dropped to 327 lumens, where it remained constant for the remainder of my measurements. This is impressive performance for such a small torch – almost 2 minutes at over 1000 lumens. The T4K arrived in a slightly different box than I’m used to with Nitecore lights – usually, I would be expecting a box that can be hung up on a retail wall-and-hook arrangement, but this has come in a box that’s more designed for displaying directly on a shelf. Wurkkos is a lesser known brand, but the build quality is very good with a slender scalloped design. It’s made of a aerospace grade 6061 aluminium alloy, with type III hard anodised finish and has an IPX8 waterproof rating. Nearly all the torches in this roundup specify this type of aluminium alloy and anodised finish so I’ll just shorten it to aluminium from now on. Rechargeable via USB-C with an internal 1000mAh Li-ion battery. The T4K can also be used while being powered / charged by a powerbank.

The OLED display provides information about the current status of the T4K when the light is turned on. It successively shows the battery level/voltage, lumen output, the user mode and the run-time remaining. After the screen goes out it can be reactivated by pressing the mode button. There is also a display demonstration function, but it is for demonstration purposes only and not a reflection of the light status. Without further ado let’s start with the lightest torch in the roundup and work up from there. Wurkoss TS10 I didn't notice PWM in the various brightness levels. The distance from the start of the spill to the feet is minimal. Given that this light has a fully internal battery, measuring amps is a bit of a silly task. But I’m going to do it anyway! That said, because the battery is soldered to the driver, I can get a clamp meter around the wires, but don’t feel good about de-soldering the battery to test that way. So what I have is the High and Turbo current readings:The Nitecore T4K can be turned on and work while charging or remain always on using a USB device such as a power bank (Turbo excluded). Four thousand lumens in a flashlight this small is pretty insane. I already own several EDC flashlights, including Maratac AAs and AAAs, ReyLight Pineapples, an Olight i3T and Olight i5T, and even a 2800-lumen Anduril-powered Lumintop FW3T. The latter of which was my brightest EDC flashlight—until the T4K came along. Nitecore did not disclose the tint (color temperature) and/or the CRI (Color Rendering Index) for the LED used in their light. For this light, a guesstimate would be in the 6500K and 70CRI ballpark. So while not quite hitting 4000 (on my sphere), it’s within the margin of error I expect with not having professional equipment, and realistically there’s almost no visible difference between 3736 and 4000. Nice! A half press and release of the tail switch turns on medium brightness, and a full press and release switches on turbo. If you press and hold either the half or full press you get momentary medium or turbo brightness until you release the switch.
