According to Metro on Dec. 28, Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report", has made an appearance in Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug". A picture revealed by a fan shows Colbert with an eye patch and Luke Evans, who plays Bard, in the background.
Colbert is one of the Lake Town spies signaling to others about Bard's movements and along with that other members of the Colbert clan reveal themselves as well. Even his children, Peter and John Colbert are seen running across the screen, and finally his wife Evelyn McGee-Colbert is seen lighting a match.
Colbert was even on the Late Show with David Letterman and mentioned that he, along with Ian McKellen, is in the "The Hobbit" sequel. He also jokingly mentioned that he's "kind of the break out star" in that movie.
The Comedy Central star is actually well versed in Middle-earth lore and even was challenged by James Franco two guess two characters in J.R.R. Tolkien's "Silmarillion". Colbert pretty much gave him his answer and great details about the characters mentioned.
