'God,' a three letter word, flipped around is 'dog.'
But, more than a mere utterance from our mouths, this word conveys all our hopes and aspirations for, not only justice and peace on earth, but, eternal joy with our beloved friends and family. So, throwing such a meaningful word around without prayer, meditation, contemplation, and religious piety, is simply carelessness, frivolousness, and outright disrespect for the gift of thought (reason), language (communication), and belief (faith).
For the true meaning of this word (this Word) bears 2000+ years of apostolic testimony in mystery, revelation, and Christian witness (martyrdom).
Be careful you don't read this too quickly! Slowly, slowly my friend...
"Beloved:What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we looked uponand touched with our handsconcerns the Word of life —for the life was made visible;we have seen it and testify to itand proclaim to you the eternal lifethat was with the Father and was made visible to us—what we have seen and heardwe proclaim now to you,so that you too may have fellowship with us;for our fellowship is with the Fatherand with his Son, Jesus Christ. We are writing this so that our joy may be complete." 1John 1:1-4
The Catholic Apostle claims to have eaten from the same table as the Eternal One--God. The Catholic Apostle, while holding true to the utter reality of God's Unfathomable Mystery in Divine Essence, claims to have walked with, laughed with, cried with, and to have embraced the Eternal One--God.
Likewise, the successors to the Apostles, the Pope and the Bishops, claim to hold Jesus Himself, in the Body and Blood of Christ, in the Eucharist. And Catholics throughout the world, rich and poor, educated and uneducated, from all races and ethnicities, male and female, young and old, claim that Christ is with them in communion with His Church, especially through the proper reception of the Eucharist.
Mystery has never lived so clearly!
"Light dawns for the just;and gladness, for the upright of heart.Be glad in the LORD, you just, and give thanks to his holy name." Psalm 97:1-2, 5-6, 11-12
The Catholic Apostle, moreover, claims to have witnessed the Revelation of 'God came near.' To have witnessed the Incarnation is to have witnessed the Almighty in the God-man Jesus Christ. Catholic Apostles, and their successors in the Pope and Bishops, along with the uncountable faithful throughout the centuries, bear witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Yet, the gospel is more than just a list of do's and don'ts.
The gospel, which the Apostles witnessed, and handed down through the ages, in the testimony of the Pope's and Bishops, saints and faithful, is the very Life of the Holy Trinity as enlivened in the Savior of all humanity, Jesus Christ. The gospel is Love, better known as Mercy.
This is the One Revelation worthy of the word (Word) God!
"On the first day of the week,Mary Magdalene ran and went to Simon Peterand to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,“They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they put him.”So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peterand arrived at the tomb first;he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.When Simon Peter arrived after him,he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. Then the other disciple also went in,the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed." John 20:1-8
So what did they see? They saw the result of Love which died for our sins. They saw the Resurrection of all their hope in the three letter word (God) become the Word of God made flesh. They saw the real meaning of Love--self-giving unto eternal Life.
They saw, they believed, and they followed His Way. Peter was crucified upside down--John was exiled to a deserted island.
Thousands upon thousands of men and women, not to mention children, have witnessed (martyrdom) to their faith in the living God (there is that word again!). The Catholic Apostolate (the Apostolic mission) is more than just witness to rules and regulations--it is witness to God's relationship with the human person based on grace and Mercy. It is the Living Christ dwelling in imperfect people, offering perfect Love.
The Mystery of God, G O D, is truly Revealed (Revelation), in the person of Jesus Christ--both God and man. The duty of the Christian is to share this, live this, and to Love Him.
And all this is possible because He Loves us first…and always!
