I would recommend this book for ages 8+, but it does contains death which could be upsetting for some sensitive readers. The original fire opal was broken by Torak's father to start the great fire that scattered the Soul Eaters.

Paver was aware that black bears are at their most dangerous when they have cubs, and any sudden movement might cause the bear to attack. When Renn injures her leg because of Eostra's vicious dogs, Torak leaves without her: when she has recovered, she goes after him, furious.It was simply a poison in the juniper berries used in salmon cakes and to flavor food, and a person could be rid of the sickness by not eating anything with the juniper berries in it for a period of time.

Torak and Renn make a dangerous journey across the frozen wilderness into the Far North to rescue Wolf; their friendship is tested to the limits and they become separated. After days of difficult work during which time other Clans join them, the First Tree finally reappears, restoring hope to the Forest. After reaching their long journeys end, Renn and Torak are happily living in the forest with their faithful pack brother wolf. Meanwhile, Naiginn turns on Renn and reveals that, unlike for her, Seshru had succeeded with him: she had turned him into a tokoroth bearing her Mage's gift.Finally, at the climax, when Tenris is about to sacrifice Torak to gain possession of his spirit walking abilities, Renn escapes and sails out to sea with Ba--- although he has to keep her from falling out of the skinboat, since she was having the same kind of trouble Torak was at balancing-- and she is able to shoot the distant Tenris in the palm, much to Bale's amazement.

Emma Thompson was born on April 15, 1959 in Paddington, London, into a family of actors - father Eric Thompson and mother Phyllida Law, who has co-starred with Thompson in several films. Torak, Renn and Wolf leave the Clans for the Deep Forest, convinced they will find a piece of the Forest in the Sacred Grove, where the oldest tree stands, while Dark finds two pieces at camp. Another of the fragments was used by Tenris to create the demon bear and his tokoroths, and is believed to have been lost when he was killed. Torak and Wolf are captured by the Raven Clan for hunting a deer on their land; they are befriended by Renn, the prickly and outspoken niece of the clan's leader Fin-Kedinn. Although he only appears briefly at the start of Wolf Brother when he is killed by the demon bear, his legacy is the driving force behind the whole of the books.
A few days later Torak and Wolf are captured by three members of the Raven Clan, including a girl named Renn, who accuse Torak of stealing one of their roebuck. I have always been passionate about reading, so I wanted my volunteering section of the programme to be book-themed.
