(Dennis Victory | preps@al.com) - McGill-Toolen senior and one-time Virginia Tech signee TJ Lang said Wednesday afternoon he is at ease and feels good about his decision this week to .The 6-foot-7 Lang, , said he decided to make the move late Monday night and called new Hokies coach Buzz Williams to ask for his release Tuesday morning."I think just the drastic changes that have happened within the program in the last month with the firing of coach (James) Johnson and the assistants who recruited me made me re-think things," he said. "Also, I didn't feel the relationship between coach Williams and I was as great as the relationship I had with coach Johnson."It was a long decision and a tough one, but I sat down with my family and prayed about it and decided it would be best for me to re-open my recruitment."Virginia Tech associate director of athletic communications Bill Dyer confirmed to AL.com Tuesday afternoon that both Lang and the school had completed the forms that needed to be completed for Lang to be released from his scholarship and re-open his recruitment. In a statement, Williams, the former Marquette coach, wished Lang well."I know the media may have been surprised by the decision, but coach Williams wasn't," Lang said. "This is something that had been building for a while. I'm not really disappointed. I know everything happens for a reason. I'm anxious to see what is next for me."

Lang, who averaged 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists for the Yellow Jackets as a senior, already is receiving interest from several colleges.McGill coach Phillip Murphy said Mississippi State called early Wednesday morning. Lang said he had received a request from an Auburn Internet reporter to pass along his number to one of new Tiger coach Bruce Pearl's assistants but had not heard from anyone official."As of now, I don't know anything about coach Pearl," Lang said. "Within the next few days, I'm actually going to start doing more research on them. Auburn is a good school and their basketball program will be on the rise."Lang hinted he might also have interest in Alabama, which recruited him prior to his commitment to Virginia Tech."(Alabama) coach (Anthony) Grant has recruited me for a while," Lang said. "He came to watch me play in Las Vegas. He has talked to my mom and dad. I think within the next year Alabama is going to be a really good team."Illinois State, UNC-Wilmington, Georgia State, Western Carolina and Rhode Island are among the other schools to have shown interest in Lang in the past 24 hours. He had more than 20 offers last fall, including South Alabama, Oregon State, Memphis and Oklahoma State.Lang was a first-team All-State selection as a junior and a second-team selection this year. He was the ."It's been crazy this week," Lang said. "I think I had like 200 messages on my phone this morning. A lot has happened in a short time. I've just got to let everything play out and see what happens."The second signing period for basketball begins April 16.
