Players learn important facts about many careers and are encouraged to explore careers about which they previously had no knowledge or interest. In some later versions of the game I understand that Uranium Prospecting was replaced by a career in Computing, Going to Sea became setting sail on a Yacht and Farming morphed into Ecology. The 1976 release contained identical pieces and game play to the 1971 version, with a new yellow colored box. The great number of possible formulae allows for many different strategies, so play can be quite different from game to game.

The Opportunity cards allow you to move to the career stated on the card, and four of the cards also give you free tuition to 4 different career paths. S. by Parker Brothers, Pressman Toy, Tiger Electronics and Winning Moves; it was off the market from 1984 until reissued by Tiger in the 1990s.Winning Moves Games has taken the original and brought it back to life, with career paths including Entertainment, Politics, Exploring, Farming, Expedition to the Moon, and Adventure at Sea.

Products that contain small parts may pose a choking hazard and should not be used by children under 3. With a couple of modernisations I can see it being really popular, or an exact replica of the original would also have great retro appeal too.Careers encourages players to think beyond just making money, and instead consider that being successful in life has many paths and aspects. The corner spaces “Payday” and “Hospital” have stayed the same, but “Florida Vacation” and “Park Bench” were modernized: a “Hawaiian Holiday” seemed more glamorous than just zipping down to Florida in the ‘70s. Each inner career path offers varying amounts of Money, Fame, or Happiness and I had a choice of where I wanted to go.

This Version is from 1971 by Parker , This is a Game where the players set their own victory conditions. It is not surprising which two career paths, besides “College,” survived over the decades: “Big Business” and “Politics. Of course, being a Parker Brothers game, things get a tad more complex with other game elements, including special game board spaces and unique situations presented by Experience and Opportunity cards, that altered game play.The game of Careers also serves as an insight into our changing interests and values over time and points out variations across different cultures. The American game has been listed for ages 8 and up, whereas one German edition reads 10 years and up and another is 12 and up.
