About this deal

Once again, the long tubes and lengthy handle come to the rescue. You can reach a fair way up a flight of stairs with the cleaner itself safely at the bottom. The 6.5m cable was just long enough to get the cleaner to the base of our stairs, but another metre or two here would have added greater overall range and allowed us to heft the CX1 up the stairs, cleaning as we went. The Comfort PowerLine is supplied with outstanding tools for hard floors in particular, and is very easy to empty and keep clean. It’s rather heavy for stair climbing and it struggled with pet hairs on carpets, but Miele does offer a dedicated Cat & Dog pet-centric version of the CX1 too. Simply pulling the CX1 Comfort PowerLine around is quite an unusual experience; the smooth rolling rubber wheels make it glide silently over hard floors. Pulling the cleaner around, the weight and size become irrelevant thanks to four Dynamic Drive casters. These combine 360-degree rotation with air-filled open rubber tyres, giving the cleaner super-smooth movement even over rough surfaces such as riven floor tiles. Now that may sound like a weird phrase, and it is, but it’s everything you want in a vacuum cleaner right?

If the Cat & Dog edges into the lead on stairs, it charged way out in front on pet hair cleaning duties – particularly on carpeted floors. The Cat & Dog head is purpose-built for digging out fur balls and pet hairs entwined into the pile, and the CX1’s super-suction does a great job of transferring them into the bin. If you ask people who already own a Miele vacuum how long they’ve had it. Most of them will tell you they’ve had it for at least 10 years! My top choice for the best Miele Vacuum Cleaner, the Blizzard CX1 powerline Bagless vacuum cleaner.

And that price is the price! Dysons are expensive, like really expensive, so if you can’t afford one or don’t want to spend that much on a vacuum then you’ll do great with the Miele. All of those coolness does come at a cost though, it’s an expensive vacuum, but it actually does as good a job as a regular vacuum cleaner so all you have to do is empty it and you’re house will clean itself. At full power over carpet, we recorded just over 70dB noise output, some 6dB less than the energy label suggests. The noise increases over hard floors, but this is still one supremely quiet vacuuming cleaner.

Dyson has superior cleaning power. But they also make upright vacuums instead of canister ones like the Miele. It’s nicely low for getting under obstacles and has a complete perimeter of castle-stepped brushes. Spreading your vacuuming power over such a big cleaning area suggests Miele is very confident in the suction power of the CX1. The EU brought in new regulations limiting vacuum cleaners to a power of less than 900 w to increase energy efficiency. However, the excellence has a HEPA filter that filters out any dust particles and allergens from the air leaving your room feeling fresher after you’ve vacuumed. But not only that, it has a powered rotating brush to do an even more thorough job of vacuum carpets getting up hair and dust. The CX1’s low noise certainly doesn’t equate to low power, however. At full power this bagless cleaner has absolutely outstanding suction and an incredibly high air-flow rate. We were quite excited about trying out the Parquet Twister XL floor-head for that very reason – and the results were brilliant. It’s our new favourite floor-head for hard floors! They lose a little of their grace in very deep-pile carpet, but each caster body has a pair of parabolic ski-like mouldings to help stop the wheels bogging down. Given the sterling performance of both the EcoTeq and SRD floorheads in the other CX1 models we’ve tested, it was little surprise to discover that cleaning results were exemplary with both. Not having to get dirty digging out dust from the bin too often and not having to remove, wash, rinse and dry out foam filters were both real winning features for us. Yes, some maintenance of emptying the filter bin and cleaning the internal gauzes will be necessary, but much less frequently than typical foam filters.
