About this deal

The smaller your lawn, the smaller the width you’ll need. This is why manual hand held scarifiers are smaller. They need to be more nimble to manage smaller gardens. If you fancy a cordless electric scarifier: Cobra S3840V 38cm (15in) Cordless Battery Scarifier & Aerator [personally tested and proven] A 35 litre, easily detachable collection bag should keep you from having to stop and empty too often and the 10 metre cable is more than enough for most average gardens. Take a small bladed screwdriver and remove the circular spring washer – don’t try to remove the split pin at the other end as it may be much stiffer than the first.

This machine works by teasing the moss and root out of the grass system, and it is fairly easy to use. Simply run it over the grass, having first made sure that the height adjustment is set at the right level. Let’s start with assembly – something that I never really enjoy doing. This Hyundai needed a little more work than the other models I tested. Assembly took about 30 minutes in total. This isn’t a huge amount of time, but keep in mind that I have a fair bit of experience assembling scarifiers. For someone who has never done this before, it’ll likely take much longer, especially considering that the instruction manual was very little help. Ease of Use: When assessing ease of use, I considered how each model started and operated, the collection and disposal process, and the positioning of key features like the handlebars. I also thought about each model’s weight, as I know heavy models can make use harder. Slightly smaller scarifiers are typically more manageable for the average gardener, so models that weighed 12 kg or less were rated the best in terms of ease of use. The ‘Jet Collect’ system on the Bosch does seem to, perhaps, just make it the slight winner when it comes to collection of wet leaves on the lawn for example. The flow of air produced by this system seems to help prevent clogging of the collection box inlet and slightly improves compaction. However, before we start the charge on Makita,The Bosch AVR verti-cutter has a combination of BOR steel blades, a 1100 watt power drive motor and their innovative ‘jet collect’ system and has proven the test of time – it’s been around a lot longer and used far more, I know from experience. These 3, working in unison, allow the verti-cutter to shift thatch and moss rapidly, efficiently and without leaving any behind. With a working width if 32cm, 4 working heights from -10mm to +5mm which are the same depths of the Makita but I wouldn’t let the Makita loose on the lawn in this video – I fear there would be nothing left 😀 The cordless scarifier folded away in seconds perfectly fitting into my wheelie bin storage box that has been repurposed as they are much cheaper than small sheds!

Seeking their new messiah which had been captured within the body of the telepath Moondragon, Raker and several high members of the Universal Church of Truth, stormed the Guardians base of Knowhere and abducted Moondragon and Cynosure of the Luminals. They made their escape to the surface of Orison, a planet converted to their shining faith eight cycles ago. Their plan was to use the prayers of the planet's inhabitants to energize the belief fonts, so that they could release their messiah from Moondragon's body. The Guardians led a rescue effort to free Moondragon and Cynosure, which led to Raker, while protecting the Matriarch, losing his life while engaged in battle with Drax the Destroyer. So, what exactly is the difference between a lawn raker and aerator? a. Aeration The drum on this scarifier isn’t removable, unlike the other models I tested, so it can only be used as a scarifier (not an aerator as well). However, it performs this one function efficiently; it lifts moss and thatch from the lawn and is a great option for maintenance. It doesn’t cut quite as deeply as some of the other machines that I reviewed, such as the Einhell, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Not every lawn needs intense scarification! If maintenance is what you’re after, rather than a complete do-over, the Bosch will produce great results. If you have a lawn, and you want it to be healthy, then you really should be using a scarifier or lawn rake from time to time and then get busy with a lawn aerator (or save time and buy a 2 in 1 like the VonHaus).
Scarifiers, also known as de-thatchers, remove grass cuttings, moss and other garden debris, by cutting into the soil and sifting your grass with blades. This action also helps to keep the soil free of weeds and healthy by improving the circulation of air and water drainage. When scarifying is ignored, the debris known as ‘thatch’ can form and cause a variety of problems for your lawn, such as making it seem ‘spongy’ or not draining water properly ( waterlogging). Dead thatch removed by a lawn rake scarifier As you progress and remove the tangles in your lawn you can lower the height of the blades, but try to keep the tines from actually going into the soil as it can damage or even break them. Q: What is the difference between scarifier and lawn raker? You can choose from 4 different working depths for working at different times of the year, and also included is a simple, yet decent grass collection box.
This product comes with a 10 metre long power cord and should be long enough for most gardens. Pros:

My favourite design feature? The twist dial at the front of the machine that you can turn to adjust the height. Every other scarifier that I have ever used has had a lever, rather than a dial – not only does the dial make height adjustment easy and convenient, but it also gives the machine a more upmarket feel. Does this make it more practical than it’s closest competition? well, yes I think it does for people with smaller lawns and limited space for storage with the ability to get the job done without emptying the collection box as often. There is also a very handy and well positioned central handle that makes carrying the almost 10 kg rake to the garage or shed very easy. When it comes to choosing whether you go for an electric, cordless or petrol aerator, consider the pros and cons that are associated with each type: Only 4 height settings. This is a shame as most of the Bosch’s competitors have at least 6 height settings. If you see something advertised as both a raker and a scarifier, then you can just assume that it’s a scarifier, since scarifiers also rake the ground. Is it worth buying a lawn scarifier? Electric corded aerators: Lightweight, quiet and often at the budget-end, these are best suited to small and medium-sized gardens with a power supply. Most come with a collection box, which is a useful, time-saving feature, but the cord length can be restrictive as well as potentially hazardous.
