About this deal

Love the quality, they blend beautifully and produce strong, complex colours (the obscure names - "storm", "sage" or "juniper" are not what you'd think - take a bit of working out, but they are good). It's available in a range of 24 subtle shades, from soft greys, blues and greens to glowing russets, plums and browns. A tin containing 12 Graphitint Pencils (port, aubergine, dark indigo, slate green, ivy, chestnut, cool grey, cocoa, storm, midnight black, cloud grey and cool grey). The more water applied to each colour, the less lightfast it becomes - be careful around colours such as pinks and purples that have low lightfast numbers as these will fade far quicker than stronger colours. I am not going to mince my words here, as with the Derwent Drawing range, I absolutely love this particular range of pencils.

Obsessing over highest quality materials and forever creating an ever evolving exceptional range for every artist. A few years ago I purchased a tin of Derwent Graphitint pencils being a fan of graphite pencils I thought it was such a great concept to add a hint of colour to my graphite drawings using these pencils. Still, it can help to lend an ethereal quality to a painting, whether it be a landscape or some sort of fantasy themed subject. Box of 24 assorted warm and cool colours: Port; Juniper; Aubergine; Dark Indigo; Shadow; Steel Blue; Ocean Blue; Slate Green; Green Grey; Meadow; Ivy; Sage; Chestnut; Russet; Cool Brown; Cocoa; Autumn Brown; Storm; Warm Grey; Midnight Black; Mountain Grey; Cloud Grey; Cool Grey and White. Derwent as a company are producing some of the most versatile products on the market at the minute, the Drawing and Graphitint ranges may not have a large number of colours in their sets, but the colours they do have will be difficult to find in other sets, making them a unique brand of pencils. The colours are: port, juniper, aubergine, dark indigo, shadow, steel blue, ocean blue, slate green, green grey, meadow, ivy, sage, chestnut, russet, cool brown, cocoa, autumn brown, storm, warm grey, midnight black, mountain grey, cloud grey, cool grey and white. Developed especially for water-soluble pencils, this smooth paper is perfect for all water-soluble media.

It is perfect for taking out sketching allowing the artist to work dry in monochrome and to add water with a brush where colour emphasis is needed. The paper is heavyweight and water resistant meaning the pencil grabs the paper and does not buckle when water is applied.

A specially selected assortment of brushes for different painting techniques; each brush in this set has been developed to produce different marks, allowing the artist greater creative possibilities. Colours can be lightened or removed with an eraser or by lifting out with a brush and clean water and the colours range from soft greys and blues to warm russets and plums. Drawing using Graphitint is lovely, though I find not enough of the 'wet' colour is coming up on the dry version, so you need to be very careful of which pencil is what colour. Other colours were added to the edges of the wings creating a layering process of wet/dry applications until I got the right amount of detail and colour strength.

To soften edges/transitions apply a damp brush to the area so as not to over saturate and drag too much pigment around which can muddy the effect.

I think if portraiture is your genre, this is not the set for you with regards your area of expertise.Unless specified, offers and vouchers are not valid on products which are already discounted from RRP, gift vouchers, books and from the I LOVE ART range. The first thing I noticed is that the Pastelmat paper grabbed the colour immediately, I did not need to apply a heavy application of colour however although this will vary if using other types of paper. Contains the following colours: Port, Aubergine, Dark Indigo, Slate Green, Ivy, Chestnut, Cool Brown, Cocoa, Storm, Midnight Black, Cloud Grey and Cool Grey. As everyone will mix different amounts of water when using these pencils, it would be impossible to give an exact lightfast rating. Easy to control water flow with a non drip valve, these brushes are portable, leak proof and easy to clean.
