Retrieved September 14, 2019.This is a mostly spoiler-free (there are some context-less images) review of the entire first part of Chainsaw Man (volumes 1-11). My goal is to encourage everyone to read at least as far as volume 3, and preferably (if this review is as persuasive as I’d like it to be) through volume 6 before writing the series off as simple, juvenile, needlessly vulgar, or some combination of all of these. Tatsuki Fujimoto is neither a simple nor juvenile writer, though that doesn’t stop them from indulging in the mindless joy of drawing a chainsaw-armed creature messily murderizing some zombies. But blood-splattered action is by no means all this series has to offer.

The plot itself basic. Not every story is supposed to be intricate with a dozen branching subplots and characters to go with, but this feels very formulaic, as in, like every shonen manga ever, though more horny. And the writing feels immature, unedited, and not cohesive at all in some places. It's like if Mineta was the protagonist of My Hero Academia. Chainsaw Man was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2018 until 2020, when it then transferred to Shonen Jump+ online magazine, where the current story continues. The series is currently collected in 11 Tankōbon volumes.
