About this deal

With so many characters and time hops at first, it was a little confused, but after you figure it out, the plot is fantastic.

Again, there wasn’t much development with any of them but you have to latch on to some characters at some point in a story! Do take that with a grain of salt as the ending's enjoyability depends on how you like your books to end. The actual horror component of this book, the dark purpose of the amusement park and the game of hide and seek, was really interesting. Obviously we meet up with the other 13 characters that are taking part and this is the first issue that I struggled with. Be it a light bite from the grazing menu, long lunch or celebratory dinner; there is something for everyone.White skillfully balances the terrifying solo experiences of individual characters, the tense group dynamics, and the park’s backstory to create a constantly shifting narrative backed by a growing sense of dread.

Ava has a lot of great lines and some great characterization, and I was very invested in hers and Mack’s relationship as well as their wellbeing. Like you I’m fascinated by the premise for this story (abandoned amusement parks make for a very creepy setting! Suspenseful and compelling, Hide is a rewarding slow burn mystery with a fun horror twist that you can’t put down. And while Kiersten White has been more in Serena’s genres of fantasy and historical fiction, she has dabbled in horror now and again. As a whole, these characters are one-dimensional at the beginning but develop throughout the read so that by the end, you are invested in who they are and their survival or demise - dependent on who they are.Overall, I had no difficulty in reading this one as I was very curious about how everything would come together but it never quite reached the potential that I was hoping for. Their discovery of secrets reveals that they were not brought to Asterion—the home of this twisted game—to get a second chance. There are warped carnival prizes collapsing games tents and undergrowth so dense there are places it’s impossible to see through.

The competitors include a wannabe influencer, a young man banished from his religious sect, a lesbian veteran, an underemployed striver, and a kindly gas station attendant. He also once said Come out, come out, wherever you are, dragging the knife along the wall as music to accompany the dying gasps of her sister.I think a good deal of this boils down to my own expectations having gone off in the wrong direction.

Book Description: The challenge: spend a week hiding in an abandoned amusement park and don’t get caught. This is an action packed novel, the characters demonstrate development (I personally was attached to a few who met no-so-good endings), and there is always a present sense of unease throughout to stimulate fear and intrigue.

Yeah, for me, it feels like a slightly missed opportunity – but, that’s my expectations talking right there and others might love this. Among them is Mackenzie “Mack” Black, recruited through the homeless shelter where she’s been staying.
