About this deal

Nav iespējams nelasīt šos jaunā vetārsta emuārus nesmejoties, brīžiem izdvešot tādas skaņas, it kā smiekli nāktu no aploka.

Market day, Tristan, Siegfried, and James go to the market to pay bills and to buy the necessary items to their house.Overall, Herriot's books are a testament t People around the world became curious about the statues after the Norwegian adventurer Thor Heyerdahl made Easter Island famous, and there are different theories about how the statues were moved to the beach. Many researchers think the statues were pulled along the ground using ropes and wood. Because the previous book I read ('The Choice') was a bit on the heavy side emotional wise, I wanted a lighter read and found this first book in this series (6 books or even more followed) among my nature books on my bookshelves. A retrospective to James’s college days, when he fancied himself an expert on horses after attending one lecture. This had me guffawing with laughter in places. Such a warm and cosy read too - in spite of the often harsh life being described (it was freezing up on the Yorkshire moors in winter).

Only the four stars for me because I’m a but squeamish on the medical procedure front. Which probably isn’t great to read just before you’re about to have your tea... 🤢 If you are even slightly interested in animals, stories, people, romance, England, and Vets, this is the book for you. I should mention that you will COMPLETELY fall in love with the settings, and if you do enjoy the books, they made a rather good, and very accurate, series of it. Of course, the books are better, but a noble effort to do justice to a magnificent piece.it was his oppinion during the late 40's how he thought England would turn out if it went down the path of communism'. Bulls with sunstroke, pigs on the run and a cake-eating Peke with a betting habit . . . I grew up reading James Herriot's book and I'm delighted that thirty years on they are still every bit as charming, heartwarming and laugh-out-loud funny as they were then. He joins as an assistant to the eccentric ' Siegfried Farnon' – based on the actual veterinary surgeon ‘Donald Sinclair’ under which James Wight originally practiced in Thirsk - the veterinarian in ‘Darrowby’ who is portrayed by Herriot as a bombastic yet good-hearted character. Herriot who was hoping for some tranquil life at the rural Darrowby soon finds himself literally knee-deep in highly amusing adventures in which the farmers, animals and a bunch of other characters - like 'Siegfried Farnon' and his lazy brother ‘Tristan Farnon’ - adding to the merry. In the very first chapter we initially meet Herriot while he is performing a calving right in the middle of a winter night, drenched in sweat, blood, snow and mud, and wondering about the situation he is in when compared to the squeaky clean picture of a veterinary surgeon performing a calving that was provided in his obstetrics book while training.

Tristan takes care of the pigs. They become more powerful as they get older, and eventually escape and cause havoc and are sold. If only they could talk’ undoubtedly is at its pinnacle when it comes to the descriptions of the landscape in which the book is set and is among one of the best countryside books I have ever read. These wonderful tales with their morsels of emotions like elation, sorrow, and humiliation all flamboyantly honeyed with humor can delight both the general reader and lovers of animal stories.

If Only They Could Talk: The Classic Memoir of a 1930s Vet

Season two of the hit TV adaptation of All Creatures Great and Small is now showing on Channel 5, featuring Sam West as Siegfried Farnon. Arriving in the small Yorkshire village of Darrowby newly qualified veterinary surgeon, James Herriot has no idea what is in store for him. Having only been qualified for the last seven months, James knew it wouldn't be easy, but he was up to the challenge or so he believed. You really get a glimpse at the Author’s own life, humour & the beautiful dales that so many of us have come to love. 🌄 Heart-breaking and hilarious in equal measure, If Only They Could Talk is the first volume of classic memoirs which chronicle James Herriot's first years as country vet in the 1930's.Siegfried argues with Tristan for arriving at 4 am. Mr. James and Tristan were getting ready to go to a village party; moreover Siegfried said that Tristan must go to see a case of a pig’s ear that was infected. It couldn’t wait longer. Tristan was wearing his best clothes and he had to attend his brother’s command. On the other hand, archaeologists Terry Hunt of the University of Hawaii and Carl Lipo of California State University Long Beach have a more positive view of the island’s history. They suggest that the inhabitants actually pioneered a type of sustainable farming – they built thousands of circular stone walls, called manavai, and grew food inside them. And their theory about how the moai were moved is that they were ‘walked’ along using a system of only ropes and a few people.
