About this deal

The camera takes three frames at varying exposures in quick succession and combines them into one 'High Dynamic Range' image. With some getting used to, though, we can imagine that one can get really skilled when handling the S Pen. Of note is the rear camera selfie mode, which locks onto the user’s face and vibrates until it captures a selfie. The gallery software is compatible with the Air View feature that allows previewing photos from albums when hovering the stylus above it. All other configurations deliver exactly the same (compared to the RAW-like output available on the handset, not very good) output.

Samsung isn't in too big a trouble just yet, but profits just can't keep climbing forever and the company needs the Galaxy Note 4 to become a success in a way the Galaxy S5 couldn't.Note: as having access to the raw camera stream of anything Snapdragon-based is somewhat well documented in Android, there may be other apps capable of avoiding the awfully strong noise reduction and oversharpening of the default image pipeline. Like the Galaxy S5, it is also equipped with heart-rate monitor, oximeter, among other, more common sensors ( barometer, digital compass, front-facing proximity sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope). This week, the World Photography Organization announced the shortlist for Student and Youth Photographer of The Year, part of the broader Sony World Photography Awards of 2024. The Note 4 has a similar camera to the Galaxy S5 with added optical image stabilisation, which removes hand shake from photos and helps prevent blur in low-light conditions. However, Samsung believed in its new form-factor, so it kept pushing it, and most importantly – refining it. The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge offer a more mainstream (and updated) smartphone setup, while the Note 4 brings together big power, a big screen and big productivity - even if it is a little long in the tooth now. It maintains good balance between form and function, with that new metal frame it has, as well as the relatively decent dimensions and great screen size. Shutter lag" (focus acquisition speed, plus a couple of other things) has always prevented me from using my smartphone for photography.

We use industry standard tests to compare features properly and we use the phone as our main device over the review period. The Note 4 has the capability to keep going for two days with the ultra power-saving mode, which isn’t as restrictive as you probably think. It's also no longer the newest flagship in Samsung's fleet with the introduction of the Galaxy Note 5, while the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge provide the most cutting edge tech and an improved design. Inevitable comparisons will be made with the iPhone 6 Plus and we’d say it matches if not surpasses the big Apple phone in most departments. Even though it can't quite measure up to the best of its rivals out there in terms of maximum nits when displaying pure white (that's our standard way of measuring screen brightness), the screen is quite comfortable to view under bright daylight, due to its low reflectance, and ability to crank the brightness up, when display content that features areas of varying colors – i.If you like using a stylus, then it’s the best one you can find on a phone, although we’d like to see Samsung do a little more to help find those S Pen-friendly apps. inch 1440 x 2560-pixel (Quad HD) display, a powerful Exynos 5433 8-core system chip running at up to 1. However, the UI is still very similar to the previous UI and slightly similar to the S6 UI, but most of the TouchWiz UI resembles the original UI for the Note 4. It’s also worth mentioning that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 isn’t dust or water resistant, this isn’t a huge deal but it’s a feature that we’re increasingly seeing on phones, including some of Samsung’s, so it’s a shame the Note 4 isn’t one of them.

Unfortunately, contacts that you haven't set images for will still get assigned a colorful dummy icon which doesn't look really mature. We already said that the attachment mechanism is pretty decent, though not great, and the ergonomics of the pen are also fairly good, but what about its functionality? We experimented with the camera's performance when taking stills and video, and had a play with the device's many special feature modes. Fortunately, the other (possible) consequence of the lower sampling speed, the lower stitching quality of non-moving subjects isn't an issue if you don't turn around too much. That alone would be enough to make it notable, but it also has an improved camera with optical image stabilisation, impressive battery life, a stylus that’s gone from novelty to genuinely useful and a bunch of extra features, such as a fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor.
