About this deal

Another journey in the wake of a Gabrielle who fully embraced the dazzle of black and Venice, incorporating them not only into her creations but into her life. Maybe it could be my personal chemistry, maybe it is the fact that I don't enjoy Chanel fragrances overall, but either way, all I can smell on my skin is straight grapefruit (so sharp, it almost smells like lemon, or a lemon-scented cleaning product) and an intense, musty musk. Somehow I feel iris, that wonderful powdery iris like the one on Dior Homme, despite is not part of the notes, I feel lots of it.

Having sampled and adored Coco, I wondered about Coco noir and I have to say that I prefer the former.

My experience with my ex boyfriend kind of tainted this perfume for me but didn’t take away my love for it, I look at it now the way I looked at him…as beautiful, and enticing, but unattainable and kind of cold but still warm, like a campfire inside an igloo. But I have learned my lesson not to layer this fragrance with Laura Ashley's No1 fragrance it hid in the background while the spotlight was on No1. Multi-faceted and noble, tempting and mysterious, hiding night secrets - all this about one small black bottle, which only looks so cold and detached. The likes of Mademoiselle and all the iterations of 5's are so heavily associated with elegance, old Hollywood etc.

On my other hand, I have tried the Coco Mademoiselle EDP and it lasted for hours compared to Coco Noir, unfortunately. I feel like before I get into this blog post, I need to mention that I am a lover of all things fragrance. This isn't something I would reach for on a daily basis, but more so for special occasions or when I need that confidence boost. Very classy Chanel fragrance, well blended, to my nose it smells like a beautiful light and sweet woody liquorice. An eau de toilette like this one is a solid option for a woman who is seeking something with less sillage because this kind of fragrance has a lower concentration of essential oils, generally between 5% - 15%. But, dare I say, it is one of the most underwhelming fragrances that my nose has ever experienced, leaning towards off-putting.

This is reminiscent of Mlle in the top notes but becomes softer and woodier - it is a mellower and more sophisticated scent. If you came hoping for something like the original Coco, there is not much overlap, as that is much more ambery and spicy than Coco Noir, but if you were after a more grown-up Coco Mlle, as I was, you will like this. Ha le stesse note di agrumi, fiori e anche incenso,se ne differenzia per pochi elementi che sono più amplificati.

I almost never hear or see any talk about the olibanum/frankincense in this, but for me it's the best part! This all makes this fragrance far too strong and overwhelmimg to me and more like something that a man would wear almost, despite being unisex smelling in my opinion.
