About this deal

NetGalley reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ‘A well-rounded cast of characters, quick pace, and thrilling twists make this one of my favourites of the year ! Brent’s debut, How To Kill Men and Get Away With It, was one of my favourite reads last year with its dark humour and witty writing style so I was excited to see what her second book was like. To access your ebook(s) after purchasing, you can download the free Glose app or read instantly on your browser by logging into Glose. The format and pacing of the novel was perfect, with each chapter beginning with a topical tweet from a different random internet person (very emblematic of our current world where everyone feels entitled to an opinion on everything) before lurching into Molly’s inner thoughts, memories and conversations. The Murder After the Night Before, as you would expect from that title, had me laughing out loud from the first page.

I found myself laughing out loud so many times at some of the stuff that Molly was saying, she was hilarious! The book cleverly knitted together the humorous (the trials of being broke, the perks and drawbacks of being single, of living in London) with a more serious social commentary on misogyny and the patriarchy.

There are times when the storyline does become nail-bitingly tense and the skilled use of humour not only offers some relief, but actually amplifies the impact of the tension. Checking her phone to see that she has gone viral for one of the worst reasons, the only person she wants to speak to and seek comfort from, is her best friend, Posey. Part of me feels one shouldn’t so enjoy a story about a cold blooded murderer, but the victims are so worthy of their punishment. But life is about to take an even more unpleasant and discombobulating turn for Molly when she finds out that an explicit video of her has gone viral!

The Murder After the Night Before - HarperCollins Publishers

The Murder After the Night Before is so page-turningly compulsive Katy Brent may just be my new hero… Feminist, funny and timely, it’s everything I want in a novel and then some. I am a massive How To Kill Men And Get Away With It fangirl - so I was mega excited to get my hands on this one. So far, so standard for Molly, who is struggling to navigate her early thirties and endeavoured to make the most of the free drinks at her company Christmas party. Her trademark darkness and sarcastic humour are both displayed to great advantage in the story of Molly, who finds herself - in the ugliest way possible - a viral phenomenon, to her utter, undiluted horror. From the author of How to Kill Men and Get Away With It , don’t miss this utterly thrilling and laugh-out-loud novel, perfect for fans of Bella Mackie, Dawn O’Porter and Killing Eve. Her reactions to the worst night of her life being followed immediately by her finding her best friend Posey dead were believable and affecting. I received an ARC of her new book after requesting it on NetGalley, and after inhaling the whole thing in one sitting, I just knew my earlier statement was completely correct. My jaw literally dropped, the twist was absolutely insane and I will not forget this book in a long time.

I also loved (can you tell how much I BLOODY LOVED it) that there was actually so much that happened in this book but the pace was PERFECT. A well-rounded cast of characters, quick pace, and thrilling twists make this one of my favourites of the year! The Murder After the Night Before was very nearly a five-star read for me, but I felt like the amount of ground the book tries to cover makes it a little messy and perhaps a little unresolved. honestly it was written so well, there was a couple of times that I wanted to shake Molly for not realising things quicker but then I also didn't guess quite a bit of the reveals so there we go!I received a free advance review copy of this ebook from the publisher in exchange for my honest unedited feedback.

This book is much more than its premise suggests, dealing with some incredibly heavy themes, including sexual assault, suicide, alcohol abuse, social media threats, and the loss of a loved one.

Immediately you find yourself in Molly's shoes and experiencing the nightmarish reality she finds herself in.
