The need for considering alignment seems especially important when implementing EBIs in complex and pluralistic health care organizations, which are characterized by multiple objectives and diffuse power. Due to the complexity of these organizations, implementation efforts are often extra challenging. Assuring that elements of the organizations’ inner and outer context are aligned with each other, and with the EBI, is therefore critical for a successful implementation [ 4, 5]. The purpose of this inter-linking process is to have goals, strategies, systems, culture, needs, leadership, etc. pulling in the same direction, and thereby optimize chances of reaching desired outcomes [ 1].
