About this deal

I wanted the bases to really contrast with the bright, warm colours I had used on the models, so I used Astrogranite, Astrogranite Debris and layers of PVA glue to create a cold, barren shoreline. A few layers of Stegadon Scale Green and Ahriman Blue in between the PVA layers, followed by a final drybrush of White Scar completed the effect. So the general scheme – and I guess these are loosely Novokh Dynasty, but I don’t know if I’ll be playing them that way – is to do deep red shoulder plates, chest armor, and heads for the core warriors, with more red plating for higher-ranking models in the army. I’ve decided to do the heads on my characters with a bone color, because it looks bad ass and gives them more of an undead feel. Necron Warriors The Fabius Bile books Primogenitor and Clonelord also have some Slaanesh daemons, and feature the Emperor’s Children, a traitor legion that fell to worship of She Who Thirsts. When it comes to painting Seraphon and building your own schemes, nature has already given you a wealth of inspiration to draw from for every type of model. Reptiles and Scaled Creatures – Saurus Warriors Paint the base white/Wraithbone. Cover the base in Citadel Blood Angels Red Contrast (I lied about not using it, at least on the bases). While the paint is wet, bleed in some Citadel Troll Slayer Orange and stir it in places to give some variation to the red.

The eyes are just Averland Sunset. I gave them a coat of gloss varnish at the end, but I’m not sure it’s worth it. You can’t really tell. Speaking of the blue, It’s a 1:1:1 mix of Teclis Blue, Fenrisian Grey and White Scar, then adding more White Scar to the mix for blending, with the brightest mix being a crisp line to define the muscles.Step 1: I start by doing a base coat of Leadbelcher all over the main parts of the body that won’t be red. My reds have pretty good coverage, so I can afford to be a bit sloppy here. I also want to get the spots on the head where the mask is broken. That then gets washed with Nuln Oil to darken it down, especially in the recesses, followed by a drybrush with Necron Compound on bits that are going to stay silver to complete it. I do this all now because when drybrushing such a large proportion of the model there’s a risk of getting some on other areas, which I’d rather be able to correct by re-applying the base than having to redo any edge highlighting. The other major difference between my characters and my rank-and-file jerks is that my character Necrons have orange hyperphase weapons. These took a bit of trial-and-error to figure out before I got a process for doing them that wasn’t particularly hateful. Overall I’m very happy with the Necron lads I’ve finished up to this point, and I’m eager to paint the rest of the box!

Then for once procrastination paid off, as what did we get later that year? Contrast paints, and with that I was sloshing away like a mad ham. Prime everything in Citadel Wraithbone (I used the rattle can, but (air)brushing it on would probably be fine too). Step 1: Base coats And here we are! Deamonettes attached to the mirror and some mud on the base to match my army. Before someone goes pointing out that I mis-assembled part of the front left coil of the mirror, yes, I’m aware. It just goes to show that you should always take your time with assembly and clean up because you never know what level of effort you’re going to put in. Better to be safe than sorry.Stage four is to paint the hafts of the spear, the sword hilt’s binding, and the interior of the shield with Cygor Brown. Daemon World by Ben Counter follows the Word Bearers but takes place on a Daemon World of Slaanesh in the Eye of Terror and features a daemon princess of Slaanesh as its primary antagonist. These factions were chosen because they all have a connection to magic, the supernatural, or the unusual, which lends itself well to the unique qualities of the Akhelian Green paint. By using this color in their painting schemes, hobbyists can create models that are both striking and true to the thematic elements of the armies they represent. Akhelian Green Colour Schemes & Combinations Snakes come in every color and can live on land or in sea. Because of their scaled skin, they make very good reference material. Wash pink parts with a thin mix of Contrast Magus Purple/Contrast Medium, wash the blue parts with a thin mix of Contrast Akhelian Green, both focusing on the recesses.

Pretty much the entirety of this step is coating the areas you want colourshifted with your paint of choice. When I did the Epitome above I used GreenStuffWorld’s Pinky Blue, but since I can’t condone that company any more I recommend Turbo Dork’s 3D Glasses, or any similar pink/purple/blue gradient. Today I’m sitting down with a Seeker of Slaanesh, the incarnation of the Dark Prince’s free spirit, which as it turns out is a lizard horse hybrid because of reasons. The Daemons of Slaanesh are twisted representations of desire and perversion, often intersexed and with lithe forms that move in beguiling ways. The daemons of Slaanesh thrive on temptation and obsession, feeding on mortals’ pride. I’m not going to go through as much of a step by step on the rest of the models, as fundamentally I mostly use the same recipes again, but there are a few extra bits on some of them. The Cryptothralls basically use exactly the same as the above with nothing really extra, so we’ll get them out of the way first.

I’ve built up a couple of wardens and the Light of Eltharion now, so they’re next on the list. I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on a Spirit of the Mountain though! And that’s the finished Necron Warrior! This was pretty fast and easy to do, and I’m very happy with the result. Despite using bright colors, they come across appropriately menacing, which is the goal. The Characters Since I usually go for darker colour schemes, I wanted to do something bright with lots of colours. After a few thoughts about the Realm of Light, I ended up wanting to paint rainbow blends. Since the plumes and horsehair are so colourful, the other areas had to be quite plain so I used white, gold and dark blue. While the skin is wet.Wash in neat Citadel Carroberg Crimson over the claws to give a cheap gradient effect. I repeat this a couple of times to darken the claws.

I use some very straightforward techniques, since I’m primarily focused on getting things to a tabletop standard ASAP.

The spear shaft is just Aggarose Dunes Contrast. Contrast paints don’t do so well on flat surfaces, but I don’t mind a little pooling or brush marks on something that’s supposed to have texture, like wood or leather. These models have been great fun to work on thus far, and I’m looking forward to working on the Reanimator and Skorpekh Lord next. From there, assembly time. Here I thought I’d test the theory that you can build these without glue, and the answer is that yes, you can, and they’re mostly fine. There were a couple of joins that were a little bit looser than I’d like (so I did add glue to those after testing the dry fit) but if you really wanted to go glue-free you could. The hardest parts to work with were faces – GW have devised a clever way to hold these into place, which is that they’re attached to one of the arms and sort of get twisted into position and held by the tension, which works but is a little fiddly to line up, and the main place I went “screw it, adding glue”. Layer Citadel Eidolon Purple Clear across the whole gem. The best way to work with this is to blob on a fair amount and then drag it out across the entire surface rather than doing multiple coats thus to ensure a even consistency. Richyp’s Wash ‘n Go
