About this deal

Siobhan Miller is an expert hypnobirthing teacher and founder of The Positive Birth Company. In this book, she aims to make hypnobirthing more accessible for every mum and every kind of birth, whether at home or in the hospital. You'll also find this book topping our guide to the best hynobirthing book as recommended by Mumsnet users. Another main difference? With Lamaze and the Bradley Method, the birth partner or coach is key. With HypnoBirthing, a support person is encouraged, but a woman can self-hypnotize. In other words, another person is not necessarily needed for success. Breastfeeding for the first time can be incredibly daunting. Whether you’re worrying about feeding positions, the quality of your baby's latch, engorgement or simply if your baby is getting enough milk, establishing a breastfeeding routine can be really overwhelming, particularly when met with well-meaning but conflicting advice from friends and family. I loved Hollie McNish's 'Nobody Told Me'. It’s a mix of poetry and prose, her thoughts through pregnancy and the early years. Made me cry in the post-pregnancy haze.” (Vetted by Mumsnet user Mogtheexcellent) Our verdict However, I did my second birth naturally by the Mongan "Hypnobirthing" Method, and I can tell you that natural birth IS POSSIBLE (even for Piglet-level wusses such as myself). This book is great... but the hypnobirthing class I took along WITH it was what really made the difference, so I'd recommend both the book AND a class. (I took a class in Orem, UT taught by Monica English). It probably won't work for everyone... but if you are one of those individuals with a lot of mind-over-matter ability, it'll do ya just fine.

How serious do you want to be?: How much information is too much information? Would you rather know all the facts and go in prepared, or is highlighting risks and complications likely to heighten your anxiety? Choose the right level of detail for you. It’s important to remember that childbirth by its very nature is unpredictable. Both the Bradley Method and Lamaze also don’t state that labor will necessarily be painless. Instead, they focus on strategies to empower and give couples options to naturally relieve pain. With HypnoBirthing, the language is centered more around birth being painless if you release fear. Not to be confused with hypnosis, hypnobirthing teaches a variety of relaxation and breathing techniques to help mums-to-be work with their body to make their labour a more calm and comfortable experience. With a focus on educating and changing your mindset, away from fear and negativity and towards enablement and empowerment, hypnobirthing has grown hugely in popularity over recent years. Presented by mum-of-two and hypnobirthing coach Clare, the Hypnobirthing Podcast is a series looking at the positive effects of hypnobirthing. According to The Positive Birth Company, women should use up and down breathing techniques. Up breathing is used during the first stage of labour where the uterine muscles are drawing up and your cervix is dilating to 10cm. It is a technique which is also used for helping people with insomnia and anxiety. It requires breathing in for four and breathing out for eight. Do this four times to help you breathe through a surge (also known as a contraction) - you can practise this during pregnancy.

A 2105 study reveals that the Bradley Method may be more comprehensive than HypnoBirthing because it covers care during pregnancy, during childbirth, and even postpartum.

Marie Louise has years of labour experience under her belt and a wonderful way of simplifying even the most complicated and overwhelming of pregnancy details into a format that is relatable and easy to understand. The NCT (National Childbirth Trust) offers paid-for antenatal courses, and refresher courses for parents who already have a child. I read Your Baby, Your Birth by Hollie de Cruz and it’s brilliant. I also did the Positive Birth Company online course and although I haven’t read Siobhan’s book, the course was brilliant and I liked her approach.” (Recommended by Mumsnetter Excitednerves) Our verdictHer down-to-earth approach makes her a sought after and successful hypnobirthing coach and with this audiobook you can listen to it again and again to help you prepare for birth.
