Mastodontico – il world building è impressionante. Descrive usanze, culture, gerarchie e creature diverse. È talmente approfondito, scientifico e complesso che una sola lettura non basta per assimilarlo. Io ho dovuto riempire il mio libro di post-it, però che bellezza! Ho finito questo libro ieri sera, a notte inoltrata, perchè non riuscivo a smettere di leggere. Solo nella giornata di ieri, ho letto 388 pagine. Non riuscivo a fermarmi. Ho iniziato la mattina alle 8 e ho smesso la sera alle undici. Ho contrato, insieme ai personaggi, pagina dopo pagina, capitolo dopo capitolo, ora dopo ora. This is a a very original book. That it could be so ambitious and not fail to deliver is very impressive. But based on how much I actually enjoyed reading it and how much I'd like to read more books by this author, or books of this type (if there are any), it is just a bit over 3 stars for me. I'm rounding-up to 4 based on the fact that I greatly enjoyed the wordplay that I understood, especially from the troubadour character Caracole, and the assumption that I would have enjoyed that aspect even more if I spoke French better. Pagina dopo pagina, il rapimento della storia coinvolge visceralmente: si diventa parte della mitica 34° Orda alla ricerca dell’Estrema Vetta, si palpita delle stesse preoccupazioni, fatiche e dolori. Si diventa tutt’uno con l’anima dei ventitré personaggi, con quel mondo che attraversano, tanto spietato quanto ammaliante. Bon je ne vais pas en faire un plat , mais j'aurais quand même eu l'obstination , l'outrecuidance , de souligner le caractère «Dantesquement abscontèsque « de cette aventure gonflante et un peu trop gonflée , toutes voiles aux vents bruyants et biens pratiques finalement … Una struttura narrativa corale, che si basa sull’alternarsi dei punti di vista dei membri dell’orda (alcuni dei quali hanno, per forza di cose, un ruolo e uno spazio preponderante rispetto ad altri), complessa e articolata, che svela un romanzo non semplice, anzi.

Un romanzo perfetto, senza sbavature, con il giusto equilibrio dato da una notevole inclinazione alla riflessione filosofica e una tensione narrativa che raggiunge livelli a volte quasi insopportabili. Come se non bastasse, l'autore inserisce il concetto di Vento-Vivo e lo infarcisce di misticismo, una versione fantastica della teoria delle stringhe. Unico e imperdibile.
