Vanilla and caramel mingle with the dark fruits and chocolate to create a wonderfully complex backdrop for the peat and salt to sit atop. The president can be held accountable for lying to the general public, but booze companies cannot be, nor should they be. The mouthfeel is exquisite with the sherry helping to entirely coat ones palate in sweet, dried fruit flavors alongside a mellow vanilla from the oak. The GlenDronach Revival was fully Oloroso matured before it was discontinued in 2015, but they currently use a combination of sherry casks including ex-Pedro Ximénez. The 18 Year Old expression of Glendronach has been named Allardice in honour of James Allardice, who founded the distillery in 1826.

If you have had the pleasure of tasting this whisky before then you’ll already know how fantastic it truly is. Glendronach distillery is a Scottish whisky distillery located near Forgue, by Huntly, Aberdeenshire, in the Highland whisky district.It would have good qualities about it, but may be lacking in less detrimental aspects such as complexity.

Nose: Sweet aromatics of fudge and muscovado sugar, Fruit compote and glacier morello cherries provide added complexity. Finally, a half decade later, I got around to tasting a sample of that GlenDronach 18 and I now know what David was talking about. Just like The GlenDronach 15 year old Revival, this 18 year old Allardice has been matured in Spanish Oloroso casks. Anything that receives a 5+ is one of my personal favorites, and something that I save for rare occasion (unless its cheap and then I drink a lot of it).The GlenDronach 18 Years Allardice is the only fully Oloroso sherry cask matured single malt in the distillery’s core range. All Glendronach whiskies are matured in ex sherry barrels, but several different sorts are used, with the Allardice coming exclusively from Oloroso barrels. My ex-wife and I (married at the time) went out for a nice dinner and I decided to treat myself with something I’d never had and when I looked at the menu this stuck out since I’d had the 12 and the 15. GlenDronach has made a great reputation with its sherry matured whisky, offering quality drams with age statements.
