We couldn’t get the Play:3 to hook into our iTunes library directly so instead had to share a specific music directory on the hard drive – which was followed by a bout of indexing that took a good 45 minutes to process (we are talking about a 15,000-track library though). This works as you pair each Sonos speaker in your surround sound system to the same Wi-Fi network as your phone or computer (whichever you plan to use as the controller). While the dual drivers do start to sound a tiny bit strained at around 80 percent volume, they cope incredibly well, far exceeding our expectations. Sound is still definitely positional – the Play:3 can produce serious volume, but it’s not hard to pinpoint where the sound’s coming from compared with the larger Play:5.

The user interface is entirely bespoke – you’re not transported to a separate menu system when you leap from Spotify to Naspter. The soundbar is likely to be connected to the TV with an audio input/output cable option depending on the model that you choose to use.Take one look at the Sonos line up and you'd know it - the design is nowhere near as refined as the newer products.
