Nikka's founder Masataka Taketsuru chose a valley in the Miyagi prefecture as the site for his second distillery and started its operation in 1969. Miyagikyo single malts have an elegance and fruity nature, using malted barley that is both lightly peated and non-peated.

MODERN AND INNOVATIVE DISTILLERY – Miyagikyo was set up in 1969 after Taketsuru had been making whisky at his more traditional Yoichi distillery for 35 years.

If Yoichi is the more masculine style of malt then Miyagikyo is the more feminine and often blended together for the well balanced Nikka blends. This no age statement bottling of Nikka Miyagikyo single malt whisky contains whiskies of at least 10 years old. The distillery is the larger of the two Nikka distilleries, with an annual production capacity of two million litres.
