Andy Stanton’s better known for his brilliant Mr Gum series for young independent readers, but this supremely silly, outrageously anarchic, and slightly surreal story became my favourite picture book of the year bar none. Danny McGee Drinks the Sea tells a tale of a sibling challenge that snowballs in the most hilarious fashion, and with its simple rhymes and easy flow, it is so much fun to read aloud.
