Geoff Tate celebrates the 25th anniversary of Queensryche's "Operation: Mindcrime" at Workplay on Thursday Queensryche comes to the Workplay Theatre on Thursday, January 9. This version of the band, led by original lead vocalist Geoff Tate will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of "Operation: Mindcrime." Tickets are . The set will begin at 8 p.m., while doors will open at 6:30.I spoke to Tate about the band's current legal struggle and the celebration of one of the most well-known concept records.Blake Ells for Birmingham Box Set: Does it feel like 25 years since Operation: Mindcrime?Geoff Tate: Sometimes if does, and sometimes it doesn't. You know, sometimes you get off the bus and it seems like it has been 25 years since that record, but then sometimes, it feels like the first time. Either way, we're having a great time.BE: Will you play the album straight through? How does it transition to a live show?GT: Yeah, we will play it straight through, because that is that is the way people are used to hearing it.BE: Would you ever do another concept album?GT: Yeah, I love that format. I love telling a story. It's an intricate puzzle that you have to figure out. It's like solving a crossword puzzle to a point.BE: Will you be performing other songs, or will it be entirely comprised of the record?GT: We'll do Operation: Mindcrime and the encore will consist of other songs.BE: How did you assemble your current version of Queensyrche?GT: It was a group which had always talked about making something happen if it worked out and this time, it did. With someone like Simon [Wright, AC/DC], we had always talked about making something happen. We opened for AC/DC in 1986. It all amounted to the synchronicity of everyone's schedule, and this worked well.BE: What is the ultimate goal of the court proceedings? Do you want to get the original lineup of Queensryche back together or do you want to win the name and continue with this band?GT: Right now, we have two Queensryches, which is way too confusing to fans. We have to give someone the name and someone has to pay the other person off. We're in settlement talks now, and I hope that we can come to a conclusion in the next couple of weeks.BE: Who are the top five American rock bands of all time?GT: Wow. Well, what do I like a lot? My top five? Grand Funk Railroad was one of my favorites growing up. Alice Cooper was as well. Who else? Kings of Leon is what I listen to a lot now. They have a unique sound. Metallica.BE: You opened for them, right?GT: Yeah. I love the way they sound. We toured with them quite a bit in the 1980's. And I'd add KISS.
